Here on a black lava plain at a geologic formation known as Dragon’s Teeth Point, the Menehune have constructed a magnificent 66-foot diameter Chartres Labyrinth from white coral with the full blessing of the Hawai’ian kahuna. |
White Coral Chartres LabyrinthCathedrals in the early Middle Ages were aligned to the axis mundi with their center line oriented to sunrise on summer solstice. Visualize the circular sun (host) rising over the square altar and setting in the west… Life in the East and Death in the West. The Chartres Labyrinth at Dragon’s Teeth Point follows this plan. The Chartres Labyrinth is the mother of metaphor. The six petals at the center can be thought to represent the 6 Days of Creation around the 7th day of rest when the Creator observed of the Creation, “It is very good.” Traverse them in a counter clockwise direction and contemplate the Heavens and the Earth, the Minerals and the Sea, the myriad design of Green Plants, the marvel of Animals both wild and domestic, the introspection of Adam alone, and the interpersonal complement and completion of Eve.
