Medieval Sacred Geometry
The monks at the school of Chartres at the time of the Labyrinth were preservers of knowledge and students of the 7 Liberal Arts (as is liberating the mind and not in a modern context as in liberal vs. conservative). The curriculum consisted of the Quadrivium... Astronomy, Geometry, Arithmetic, and Music, and the Trivium... Grammar, Rhetoric, and Dialectics. Sacred Geometry is a philosophy seeking to know and understand the numbers, ratios, proportions, and progressions used by the Supreme Artiste as the blueprint for the heavens, the earth, and all the creatures therein. It can well be considered the "Intelligent Design" theory of the times. The dimensions of the Chartres Cathedral and even the Chartres Labyrinth then are laid out in extraordinary harmony with the order of the natural world. In these neo-Platonic times, every effort was made to bring into consonance the Faith of the Bible with the Reason of the philosopher... FAITH & REASON. Sacred Geometry was not a secret geometry given to arcane or occult studies, but rather a sacred geometry open to any student of merit desiring to magnify the Creator by understanding the Creation. Mathematics is the poetry of GOD!
